Try hands-on experience with WorldSkills Queensland

The Careers and Employment Expo allows people to gain advice on a range of trades and engage directly with industry experts as they demonstrate their workplace skills.

WorldSkills Queensland (WSQ) is facilitating a showcase of trades and other career pathways to help expo visitors, particularly soon-to be school leavers, make informed vocational choices. WorldSkills Australia and its state-based bodies drive skills excellence in vocational, technological and service oriented careers.

Our nation’s future depends on effective skills training systems, and WSQ have raised the awareness of the hundreds and thousands of young Australians, their parents and employers that contribute to the workforce and rely on these systems.

The expo offers the opportunity for students, job seekers and career changers of all ages to connect with organisations for guidance, clarity and opportunities in relation to career options. Throughout the day students can ask questions and interact with industry professionals to gain further insight into different career paths.

Jasine Pugh, Acting State Manager for WorldSkills Queensland, stated that a variety of training providers, peak industry bodies and industry representatives will be taking part in the expo, offering hands-on activities.

They include TAFE Queensland, MyCar Automotive, Brick & Block Careers, Queensland Tourism Industry Council, Loreal, The French Beauty Academy, Aussie Painters Network and Osmac Apprenticeships.

“Trades on display span from Hairdressing, Beauty and Fashion through to 3D Printing, Carpentry, Roof Tiling and Bricklaying,” Jasine said. “Visitors can watch tradespeople at work, making it a great opportunity to gain insight into the training and skills required for specific career pathways.

This year, attendees will also have the chance to see a WorldSkills Regional VETiS Makeup Services competition and a WorldSkills Tiling demonstration in action.”

“Qualified trainers and tradespeople will be on hand to explain the skills and qualifications needed to achieve a range of career goals across diverse industries. In doing so, the event helps support the development of a skilled workforce across multiple sectors.”
